Is Amazon’s Next HQ Coming to Your City?
The e-commerce giant’s second base will be equal in size to the Seattle headquarters and create as many as 50,000 jobs.

Seattle--Amazon is on the search for a second headquarters in North America that will be equal in size to its Seattle operations.
“We expect HQ2 to be a full equal to our Seattle headquarters,” said Amazon Founder and CEO Jeff Bezos. “Amazon HQ2 will bring billions of dollars in up-front and ongoing investments, and tens of thousands of high-paying jobs. We’re excited to find a second home.”
The company estimates that a second headquarters will allow it to create up to 50,000 “high-paying” jobs, in addition to the thousands of jobs that will come with construction of the facilities.
The project is expected to cost $5 billion.
Amazon said that its second headquarters will also create billions of dollars of investments in the local community.
From 2010, when Amazon moved its headquarters to downtown Seattle, to 2016, Amazon estimates that its presence in Seattle contributed $38 billion to the city economy, with every dollar invested seeing a return of an additional $1.40.
Amazon also estimates that as a result of its investments, non-Amazon employees enjoyed an increase in personal income of $17 billion total.
Amazon’s Seattle headquarters consists of 33 buildings set on an 8.1 million-square-foot campus, with 24 onsite restaurants and cafes. More than 40,000 employees work on the campus, which cost $3.7 billion to build.
For its second headquarters, Amazon said it has a preference for urban or suburban stable, business-friendly metropolitan areas with more than 1 million people, as well as “communities that think big and creatively when considering locations and real estate options.”
Local and state government officials interested in bringing Amazon to their city may learn more and submit a proposal at Amazon.com.
