Rio Tinto Announces Final ‘Beyond Rare’ Tender
The miner is honoring the end of an era with an offering of 52 lots from the now-closed Argyle and the soon-to-close Diavik mines.

The event pays homage to the life of two iconic mines, the miner said.
The Australian Argyle Diamond Mine closed in 2020, and the Diavik Diamond Mine in the Northwest Territories of Canada, following two phases of underground mining intended to extend its life into 2026, will cease production next year.
Titled “Into the Light,” it's the third tender in the miner’s annual Art Series.
It will feature a collection of 52 lots totaling 45.44 carats.
The offering includes six “masterpieces,” described by the miner as diamonds that showcase the “pinnacle of production” from Diavik and Argyle.
Seven curated sets of diamonds and 39 single diamonds will be offered alongside the headlining stones.
From the Arygle mine, there is a fancy red diamond, 12 fancy violet diamonds, and 76 fancy pink, fancy purple-pink, and fancy purplish pink diamonds. The color grades are from the Gemological Institute of America.
From Diavik, there is a 6.12-carat fancy vivid yellow diamond, as well as two D-color white diamonds with internally flawless clarity.
Cut from the same original rough diamond, they are a 5.11-carat emerald-cut and a 3.02-carat pear-shaped diamond.
The diamonds in the final Art Series boast “pure and clean provenance and the kaleidoscope of colors,” according to Rio Tinto.
“It is hard to overstate the importance of this final collection from two extraordinarily beautiful places on earth – the East Kimberley region of Western Australia and the Northwest Territories of Canada,” said Patrick Coppens, general manager of sales and marketing for Rio Tinto’s diamonds business.
“No other mining company in the world has custody of such an exquisite collection of diamond colors, shapes, and sizes, and we all pay tribute to the men and women who have worked so hard over many years to bring them to market.”
The 52 lots will be showcased in Hong Kong, Australia, and Antwerp, with bids closing on Oct. 20., 2025.
