Piece of the Week: Elsa Jin’s ‘Mozi’ Brooch
Adrien Brody received his first Golden Globe while wearing the “Mozi” brooch, which depicts a spill of traditional Chinese calligraphy ink.

Brody wore the “Mozi” brooch by Elsa Jin, a fine jewelry artist and designer whose jewels he has worn to red carpets previously.
The titanium brooch features a peacock Tahitian pearl held in a spill of black diamonds totaling 221.07 carats, grey diamonds totaling 7.07 carats, and emeralds totaling 1.80 carats.
The brooch is part of the “In Search of Chinese Culture” collection, which debuted in 2021.

The piece uses gemstones to depict spilled ink used in traditional Chinese calligraphy.
Unconstrained painters and calligraphers in China would spill their ink on paper before painting a picture that followed the natural flow of ink and the mind, said Jin.
Brody wore the Mozi brooch to the 82nd Golden Globes as he received the first Globe of his career in the Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama category for the film “The Brutalist.”
In the film, he played László Tóth, a Hungarian architect and Holocaust survivor trying to rebuild his life in America following World War II.
In his acceptance speech, Brody said that he was “deeply humbled by this” and “there was a time not too long ago that I felt that this would not be a moment afforded to me again, so thank you.”
His full acceptance speech can be seen here.
