US Customs Seizes Counterfeit Tiffany & Co. Jewels
Officers in Champlain, New York valued the jewels, if genuine, at nearly $30,000.
Between December 2024 and Jan. 6, 2025, CBP officers at the Champlain Port of Entry Cargo Facility inspected several packages containing jewelry and seized their contents for intellectual property rights violations.
The counterfeit Tiffany & Co. jewels included necklaces, rings, and bracelets. If genuine, the pieces would have been valued at nearly $30,000, said CBP.
The agency has the authority to detain, seize, forfeit, and destroy imported merchandise if it bears an infringing trademark or copyright that has been registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office or the United States Copyright Office, it said.
“CBP continues to play a crucial role in protecting the consumer and businesses from the importation of fraudulent merchandise,” said Champlain Port Director Steve Bronson.
“I’m proud of the outstanding job our officers and import specialists do in targeting these shipments and identifying these violations.”
Trade in counterfeit and pirated goods “threatens America’s innovation economy,” said CBP, and hurts the competitiveness of businesses, the livelihoods of U.S. workers, and, in some cases, national security and the health and safety of consumers.
CBP has an educational initiative available online to educate consumers about the dangers surrounding counterfeit goods.
