De Beers to Move Auction HQ from Singapore to Botswana
Sales will be paused while the relocation takes place over the next few months.

De Beers will not hold any auctions until the move is completed.
The decision to relocate was made to support the miner’s focus on streamlining operations, improving efficiency, and strengthening partnerships, it said.
It’s also a move to continue facilitating development of Botswana’s diamond industry, De Beers said, noting its confidence in the country’s capabilities and growth agenda.
Speaking on behalf of the Botswana government, Emma Peloetletse, permanent secretary to President Mokgweetsi Masisi said, “The relocation of De Beers’ auctions business to Botswana underscores Botswana’s growing role as a global hub for the diamond industry and will further enhance our economy and bolster skills development in the sector.”
In 2013, De Beers moved its sightholder sales to Botswana from the United Kingdom as part of the 10-year sales agreement De Beers and the Botswana government signed in 2011. (The two reached a new 10-year sales agreement in principle in June 2023.)
The transfer of the auctions business is a “logical and positive move,” De Beers Group CEO Al Cook said.
“I am very pleased that we are consolidating our global diamond trading business under one roof,” he said.
“This move will drive cost efficiencies and support our customers’ needs. I am confident that it will also support the further development of the vibrant diamond sector in Botswana.”
