De Beers has appointed Ivette Nersesyan-Stephanopoulos vice president of Code of Origin and trade services for North America.
Stamford, Conn.—De Beers Group has hired industry veteran Ivette Nersesyan-Stephanopoulos as vice president of Code of Origin and trade services for North America.

Code of Origin is a new provenance program De Beers is in the process of rolling out.

Each diamond in Code of Origin has a unique code inscribed on its table that assures it was mined by De Beers in Botswana, Canada, Namibia or South Africa; is natural (not lab-grown); and conflict-free.

De Beers’ trade services include the De Beers Institute of Diamonds grading, training courses, and its lab-grown diamond detection equipment.

“Ivette’s extensive market knowledge and insight will be valuable to the company as we look to scale the Code Of Origin program from our initial phase to a driving force in the market helping to uplift the value of all the diamonds that the De Beers Group mines from Botswana, Canada, Namibia and South Africa and provide consumer assurance of provenance,” said Charles Stanley, president of De Beers Brands North America.

“In doing so, we continue our ‘Building Forever’ mission to create a positive, lasting impact, from education and jobs to healthcare and wildlife conservation, to the lives of the people and the places where De Beers diamonds are found.”

Prior to joining De Beers, Nersesyan-Stephanopoulos was the senior director of global business development at GIA.

She has also worked as the director of wedding and high jewelry at David Yurman.

Nersesyan-Stephanopoulos serves on the Mentorship Committee of the Metro Chapter of the Women’s Jewelry Association and is an advisory board member of the Client Experience Program at Ithaca College.
