Philadelphia--Police are investigating the deaths of a jewelry store owner and his wife, who were found dead in their suburban Philadelphia home Sunday.
The bodies of 65-year-old Boris and his wife, Inna Sereda, 61, were discovered in their home in Northampton Township, located 12 miles northeast of Philadelphia.
Though Northampton Township Police would not confirm any more information about the incident to National Jeweler, saying that the investigation is ongoing, local news sites report that it is believed to be a murder-suicide in which Boris killed his wife before turning the gun on himself.
Philly.com, the online hub for the Philadelphia Daily News and the Philadelphia Inquirer, said Boris and Inna were found on the second floor of the house, where a gun also was located. Police have said that there were no signs of struggle prior to the couple’s death and that there have never been any complaints filed about them.
Boris reportedly owned a jewelry store called Sereda Enterprises, located on 7th Street between Sansom and Market streets on Jewelers’ Row, the strip of jewelry wholesalers, craftsmen and retailers located in the Center City section of Philadelphia.
An answering machine picked up at the store on Tuesday morning, and its website states that “This store is currently closed,” though no additional information about how long the store has been closed was available by press time.
A neighbor of the Seredas told Philly.com that the couple was well-liked in the neighborhood and also had a son, a daughter and grandchildren about whom they cared deeply.
The neighbor also said that they believed that Boris had been ill for some time and that his condition had recently deteriorated. It’s not known at this time whether that illness played a part in the incident.
