New York--The Accredited Gemologists Association is seeking nominations for its 2015 Antonio C. Bonanno Excellence in Gemology Award, which recognizes major contributions made in the field of gemology.
Nominees must have made a significant contribution to the field or defended and upheld gemological standards in a way that benefits the larger community, the AGA said.
Valid nominations will explain why the proposed nominee should receive the award, describing current or past contributions or accomplishments that inspired the nomination in 250 words or less.
Membership in the AGA is not required to nominate or be nominated for the Bonanno Award.
The deadline is July 15. Nominations can be submitted on the organization’s website.
The winner will be selected this fall and announced in Tucson at the gala held at the end of the AGA Gemological Conference on Feb. 4, 2015 at the Marriott University Park Hotel.
The award includes a specially commissioned bronze plaque, a specially commissioned medallion and a check for $2,000.
Past winners include leading research gemologists from world renowned laboratories, educators, market analysts, and developers of innovative software solutions for the gemological field.
Last year, the AGA chose John Emmett, who is considered the world’s foremost expert on corundum treatments, as the recipient of the 2014 Antonio C. Bonanno Award for Excellence in Gemology.
