Designer Lydia Courteille gets surreal
Parisian designer Lydia Courteille’s new collection, “Homage to Surrealism,” is a nod to the European artistic movement of the first part of the 20th century.
Vibrantly colorful and seemingly animated, the one-of-a-kind pieces (prices upon request) are truly miniature sculptures, works of art. I’m not sure if I would wear them or secure them under a glass dome on a mahogany pedestal in my living room, afraid to touch.
The “Lips” ring made in white gold with rubies and pearl.
The gold and enamel “Skull” ring.
The gold and sapphire “Lobster” earrings.
“Tree Couple” earrings, made with diamonds, sapphires, green garnet and moonstone.
The “Spider” brooch, made in gold with moonstone and green garnet.
The “Key of a Heart” earrings, made in yellow gold with rubies and diamonds.
Courteille’s bold use of color and unbridled sense of design allows her work to stand out from the typical jewelry designs seen in stores, publications and online.
But with this, the jewelry also speaks to a different kind of consumer, in a more particular niche.
Maybe it appeals to the type of people who keep beautiful pieces of jewelry under glass domes? Kidding, that’s probably only me.
Courteille has been recognized for her work in the past, earning a Couture Design Award in the Colored Gemstone Above $20K category this past June. Check out more designs on her website.
