Israel exchange again stressing mined diamonds
Next month, members of the Israel Diamond Exchange will return to New York for another week-long trading event, bringing back with them their “Natural Is Real” campaign emphasizing the Israeli diamond industry’s commitment to mined, not lab-grown, stones.
New York--Next month, members of the Israel Diamond Exchange will return to New York for another week-long trading event, bringing back with them their “Natural Is Real” campaign emphasizing the Israeli diamond industry’s commitment to mined, not lab-grown, stones.
IDE members launched the campaign during last year’s Israel Diamond Week in New York but Alon “Loney” Grinker, the diamantaire and IDE board member who came up with the slogan and campaign, said it hasn’t “trickled down through the diamond supply pipeline.”
“This year, in New York, we’ll be making a pitch for the diamond trade to adhere to full transparency, i.e. disclosure of treatments and processes. And since synthetic diamonds can and will not be traded on the IDE trading floor, we’ll be advancing Israel under the ‘Natural Is Real’ banner,” he said.
Synthetic diamonds, and the non-disclosure of, particularly in smaller goods, have been an issue the industry has had to confront in recent years as production of gem-quality lab-grown diamonds has increased.
It is one that prompted the Gemological Institute of America and De Beers to step up their synthetic detection efforts, with both introducing new lab-grown diamond screening machines this year.
The third edition of Israel Diamond Week, a biannual diamond sales event organized by the IDE and the Diamond Dealers Club of New York, is scheduled to take place Nov. 10 to 13. Buyer registration is available on the IDE website.
