Knoxville, TN reclaims its romantic lead
How about a little love just before Valentine’s Day? Here’s Amazon’s annual list of America’s most romantic cities, based on residents’ purchases of romance-related paraphernalia.
Seattle--After being knocked back to third, Knoxville, Tenn. again has topped the list of the America’s most romantic cities, an annual ranking Amazon creates based on consumers’ amorous shopping tendencies.
To create the list, Amazon compiles sales data from cities that have more than 10,000 residents and looks at their purchases of romantic novels and relationship books, romantic comedy movies, sexual wellness products, and a curated list of romantic music, which includes crooners like Barry White and Luther Vandross.
Knoxville, which claimed the top spot in both 2012 and 2013, was knocked down to third on last year’s list when San Antonio, Texas was named the most romantic city in the country. But the Tennessee town reclaimed its crown this year.
In the No. 2 spot is Miami, followed by Orlando, Fla., Alexandria, Va. and Vancouver, Wash.
Rounding out the top 10 are: Cincinnati, Dayton, Ohio, Columbia, S.C., Round Rock, Texas and Murfreesboro, Tenn.
Broken Arrow, Okla. debuted on the list this year at No. 14, and three Florida cities were included in the ranking, with Gainesville taking the No. 19 spot in addition to Miami and Orlando.
Five cities that dropped off the list completely were San Antonio--last year’s chart topper--Seattle (home to Amazon headquarters), Spokane, Wash., San Jose, Calif. and Sioux City, Iowa.
