John Hardy’s New Jewels Turn the Black Sands of Bali into Diamonds
The new designs blend Creative Director Reed Krakoff’s aesthetic with the brand’s Balinese roots.
John Hardy’s new designs use treated black diamond and white diamond pavé set in sterling silver to represent the black sand beaches of Bali, Indonesia.
New York—John Hardy released its new “Black Sand” jewelry designs, a part of the brand’s holiday offering, last week.
The pieces offer an aesthetic update to the “Pebble” and “Surf” collections, which utilize sculptural silhouettes creating elemental and naturalistic shapes inspired by the surf and sea.
Reed Krakoff, the brand’s creative chairman, looked to the black sand beaches of Bali, Indonesia, when developing the new styles, blending his design aesthetic and John Hardy’s Balinese roots.
Treated black diamonds and white diamonds are used throughout the 12 pieces to represent the dark-colored sand. The gemstones are all pavé handset in sterling silver.
The designs include stacking rings, statement hoops, and pendants, all shaped to organically function and stack with the wearer’s current jewelry collection.

As part of John Hardy’s holiday offerings, the Black Sand jewels are perfect for an unexpectedly moody and noir styling that fits winter dressing, said the brand.
The pieces retail for $895 to $6,900.
The company recently opened a new concept store near New York City’s Rockefeller Center. The design of the boutique is inspired by the Black Sand pieces.
