The recent high jewelry auction, which also featured the sale of a 10-carat blue diamond, was “a celebration of color.”
Texas jeweler is dubbed a state ‘treasure’
Retailer Houston Jewelry was recognized in Congress recently as a true “Texas Treasure,” for its long history, impact on the state and the international recognition it has received.
U.S. Rep. John Abney Culberson, a Texas Republican who represents a large part of Houston, made the statement into the Congressional Record on July 3 in Washington, D.C.
Part of the text on the record reads, “The history of this jewelry store mirrors that of Texas itself. What started out as a frontier general store in the young, burgeoning town of Houston, grew and matured to become one of ‘America’s Best Couture Jewelers’ and multiple winner of the Better Business Bureau of Houston’s Award for Excellence, Winner of Distinction award.”
Houston Jewelry is one of the oldest family businesses in the city, and is among the oldest in the state of Texas. The Houston Jewelry “superstore” concept was started by Abe Donsky in 1953, but the real roots of the family business goes back to 1866, with the Ephraim & Rosenfield general store.
It is now in its fifth generation of management by the Donsky-Solomon family.
“It is a great honor to be recognized in the Congress of the United States and we thank Congressman John Culberson for the recognition,” said Houston Jewelry President Rex Solomon.
The store also has been honored by National Jeweler’s America’s Best Jewelers program, the Texas Historical Commission and is part of Jewelers of America’s 100 Club, an exclusive club for JA member companies that have been in operation continuously for at least 100 years.
