Citizen Introduces a Super-Slim Eco-Drive
Citizen has unveiled what it’s billing as the world’s thinnest light-powered watch as it marks the 40th anniversary of its Eco-Drive technology.
Basel--At Baselworld this year, light and thin were in.
There was Bulgari’s ultra-slim minute repeater, the new Avenger Hurricane from Breitling as well as Rado’s Hyperchrome Ultra Light and True Thin Line and, from Citizen, the Eco-Drive One.
Citizen launched this ultra-slender version of its light-powered watch as it marks the 40th anniversary of Eco-Drive; the company created the world’s first analogue quartz light-powered watch in 1976.
Billed by Citizen as the thinnest light-powered watch in the world, the Eco-Drive One is powered by a 1 mm thick movement comprised of 85 components.
The movement is squeezed into a case that’s only 2.98 mm; picture a watch that’s less than half as thick as the iPhone 6.
The caseback and bezel are constructed of a binderless cemented carbide that Citizen said is hard and both corrosion and oxidation resistant.
Once fully charged, the timepiece will run for eight months even if kept in complete darkness.
The Eco-Drive One is available in a limited edition version that is black with a cermet (ceramic and metal) case, which retails for $6,000, and a stainless steel bracelet version ($2,600).
