Burglars Enter CA Store Through Roof, Steal Everything
The Jewelers Security Alliance said it has seen an uptick in burglaries involving rooftop entry or cutting through the sidewalls.
Laguna Niguel, Calif.—Burglars recently cut through the roof of a retail jewelry store in California to steal everything inside, according to the Jewelers Security Alliance, which said it has seen an uptick in this kind of burglary.
After cutting off the power to Nuggets and Carats Jewelry Store in Laguna Niguel, California, the suspects cut through the roof, used a rope to lower themselves in and cut into the safe, JSA said in a Thursday email alert.
The burglars also removed another safe from the store, dragging it out the back door into a parking lot.
They ended up stealing every item from the store, including repair pieces.
JSA said it has seen an uptick across the country in the number of burglaries involving rooftop entry or cutting through the sidewalls, with some involving cutting alarm wires.
The organization is asking anyone with information to reach out to 212-687-0328 or jsa2@jewelerssecurity.org.

It also has made the following safety recommendations to jewelers.
- Have alarms that cover all possible means of entry, including the roof and sidewalls.
- Have line security to protect the store in case the alarm system is disabled.
- Give the police reports of all alarm conditions, including interruptions to the store. Check the interior and exterior of the premises, including the roof and all possible means of entry.
- Know that TL-15- and TL 30 U.L.-rated safes can easily be entered by burglars using commonly available tools. Those rated TRTL 30x6 will offer better protection.
