Feldmar Watch President Sol Meller Dies at 69
Meller, who had been with the company since the early 1970s, died Nov. 30 from pancreatic cancer.
Los Angeles--Feldmar Watch Company President Sol Meller died Nov. 30 from pancreatic cancer. He was 69 years old.
Meller’s career in retail began in the early 1970s, when he married Nancy Feldmar. As his graduation from law school drew near, Meller’s mother- and father-in-law, Harriet and Barney, asked him to join the family business.
He quickly began to learn about the watch industry, and it was his understanding of watches combined with his spirit and passion that were key to him becoming a role model and leader at Feldmar, the company said. He was even referred to as “Uncle Sol” by his employees, industry friends and close clients.
Meller was not only a skilled salesman but is credited with transforming the Los Angeles watch retailer in to the business it is today and sticking with the company’s core value of exceptional customer service with a focused but wide product offering.
Meller’s son Scott, who worked alongside his father for more than 20 years, now will oversee the family business.
“(Sol) will be sorely missed by all and remembered as being dedicated to his craft while always being quick with a hug, a handshake or a smile,” the company said in a statement.
Meller is survived by his wife, Susan Title; former wife, Nancy Meller; son, Scott; daughters Jody Bakhtiar and Tracy Kleinberg; and seven grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Friday at Hillside Memorial Park in Culver City, Calif. Donations in Meller’s memory can be made to the Concern Foundation, an independent volunteer organization dedicated to raising funds to support cancer research.
