New York--Law enforcement agencies across a number of states are on the hunt for two suspects wanted for their alleged involvement in multiple jewelry store heists.
Police departments in South Carolina, Maryland, Michigan, Ohio, New Jersey and Pennsylvania are looking for Robert Antoine Weathers, 53, and Robin Tracy Nelson, 50, in connection with jewelry theft.
Two other suspects also are sought in connection with many of these cases, though police have yet to identify them.
According to the Baltimore County Police Department, Weathers and Nelson, along with the two unidentified suspects, went into Bijoux Jewels in Baltimore on May 13, taking more than $25,000 worth of jewelry from an unlocked office in the store.
Police in Columbia, S.C. reported a similar incident with Weathers and Nelson, stating that the two, as well as the other suspects, went into Moseley's Diamond Showcase on June 14, posing as customers and possibly asking to see jewelry.
The distraction allowed Weathers to walk to a restricted area behind the showcases and steal more than $100,000 in diamonds from the open safe. He was seen on video surveillance footage hiding the tray of diamonds in his jacket.
Once captured, the pair will be charged with grand larceny and criminal conspiracy, according to the City of Columbia Police Department.
Columbia police said that they are partnering with multiple law enforcement agencies to locate the thieves, and believe that so far, the group may have stolen between $350,000 and $500,000 in jewels and money as they target small independent jewelry stores.
