Bogota, Colombia--Fedesmeraldas, the Colombian Emerald Federation, is organizing the first international gathering of emerald-producing countries this fall to address issues facing the industry.
The inaugural International Emerald Symposium will be held in Bogota from Oct. 13 to 15.
It will bring together producing countries, gemological laboratories, wholesale and manufacturing companies, luxury brands, government and international gem and jewelry associations to share the latest developments in the emerald industry.
Issues related to promotion, production, enhancement, resource management, manufacturing, certification, nomenclature, technology, consumer education and branding also will be discussed.
The agenda at the symposium includes presentations by Benjamin Hackman, president of the International Colored Gemstone Association; Dr. Thomas Hainschwang, director of GGTL Gemlab; Oscar Baquero, president of Fedesmeraldas; Geatano Cavalieri, president of CIBJO, the World Jewelry Confederation; and designer Erica Courtney, among many others.
Fedesmeraldas said that this will be the first time that producer countries have come together at a high-level international gathering to address issues relating to the emerald business in the same way diamond industry representatives have done in the past for their trade.
The symposium will be supported by the country’s Ministry of Mines and Energy and all emerald-related bodies.
