Red Sox’s World Series rings are gem-laden
Boston Red Sox players received their 2013 World Series rings last Friday, which are set with 126 diamonds, 16 custom-cut sapphires and nine custom-cut rubies.
Made by Minneapolis-based Jostens, the 14-karat white gold rings feature each person’s name and number and the number of World Series titles that person has won with the Red Sox. Each ring also features a “B Strong” motif, which “pays homage to the city that inspired a team and a team that inspired a city,” Jostens said, and mirrors the patch the players wore in memory of the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing.
The inside of the rings show a “Bearded Brothers” image and the date 10-30-13, the day the Red Sox beat the St. Louis Cardinals to win the World Series.
“The rings celebrate the Red Sox’s winning history, capture the unique personality of the team and highlight the City of Boston which was an integral part of this team’s story last season,” said Red Sox principal owner John Henry.
The rings were presented to the Red Sox team and uniformed personnel and staff during Opening Day at Fenway Park.
“We are proud to help present the team with a ring that celebrate the team’s eighth championship title and historic victory,” said Chris Poitras, vice president of college and sports at Jostens. “This dazzling ring was meticulously designed to emphasize the best qualities of each of the materials used and create an exceptionally beautiful ring.”
Jostens does not release valuation numbers for its championship rings.
In addition to the World Championship rings, the Red Sox presented player David Ortiz with a 2013 World Series MVP ring, also made by Jostens.
The 14-karat white gold ring features nine custom-cut rubies depicting the Red Sox socks logo over a handset diamond pavé surface, with “World Series” encircling the top of the ring and a diamond crest that forms the letters “MVP.”
Jostens also is offering a collection of personalized jewelry and collectibles for men and women inspired by the World Series Championship rings, available on Jostens.com.
