Gemfields, jewelers helping underprivileged girls
Gemfields has partnered with 10 jewelers and charitable organization Nanhi Kali to launch a jewelry-related project that will help support underprivileged girls in India.
Called Project Blossoming, the initiative tapped 10 Indian designers who created one-of-a-kind pieces with Gemfields’ Zambian emeralds and Mozambican rubies.
The collection now will tour India and New York, visiting each of the designer’s boutiques before returning to Mumbai on June 6, where the pieces will be auctioned at Christie’s during an exclusive event.
The sale of this jewelry will raise funds for Nanhi Kali, a non-governmental organization that provides education and support for underprivileged girls in India.
Bollywood actress Chitrangda Singh is the global ambassador for Project Blossoming, and said she hopes to use her influence to raise awareness of both the project and Nanhi Kali, which is expecting to support around 2,000 girls with proceeds from the auctioned jewelry.
“India has played an important part of Gemfields’ success as a business,” Gemfields CEO Ian Harebottle said. “We feel that it is only fair to give back to a country that has been so hospitable to us. With the funds raised through the sale of these colorful jewelry creations we can have a huge impact on the lives of thousands of young girls all over India.”
