GSI 'Joy' boxes bring essentials to children
Gemological Science International has partnered with charitable organization Each One Teach One to launch the “Joy Box” campaign, which will provide children in Mumbai with essential daily items.
GSI CEO Mark Gershburg started the campaign and is coordinating the collection and distribution of the boxes, which will be filled by participants with basic items such as pen sets, socks, educational games, papers for tests, shirts and new clothes, for children between the ages of 13 and 15.
GSI will pick up the filled boxes from the participants and deliver them to the Each One Teach One foundation. The Joy Box campaign, which will run through this summer, will give boxes to approximately 100 children across the city.
The campaign also has the support of the Mumbai diamond industry based in the Bharat Diamond Bourse and the Capital Building in Bandra Kurla Complex.
“Social responsibility is a fixed component in GSI culture and is strongly supported by our employees,” said GSI Vice President of Indian Operations Neeta Shah. “By giving back to society in a beneficial way we are taking responsibility for future generations.”
GSI was established in 2005 as a full-service, high-tech lab designed to meet the rapidly changing needs of the jewelry industry. The organization now has offices in the U.S., India, Israel and Belgium.
Each One Teach One is a charitable foundation aimed at creating opportunities for underprivileged children in rural and urban India. To date they have reached out to more than 5,000 children in India.
