Prescott, Ariz.--Jewelry supply distributor Halstead Inc. is calling for applications for its Halstead Grant, which awards new designers with money to help get their businesses going and encourages positive business practices in the jewelry industry.
Eligible jewelers should have launched their businesses within the last one to three years and work primarily in silver.
The competition is open to U.S. citizens with studios in the country, and all design techniques--including metalsmithing fabrication, casting, metal clay, wire work or beading--are welcome.
The winner will receive $5,000 in cash for their business and $1,000 in jewelry supplies.
The deadline for application is June 9. Candidates will need to submit a design portfolio and resume, as well as elements of a business plan including marketing, production capacity and financial planning information.

Halstead Inc. specializes in wholesale findings, chain, tools and metals for jewelry artists. This year marks the 10th year that the company has awarded the grant, which is meant to recognize jewelry artists that excel in both design and business preparation to encourage professional practices in the jewelry industry.
Last year’s winner was Erica Bello, from Rochester, N.Y., who won the contest with a series of geometric silver pieces that feature an oxidized finish and 3-D dynamic.
