5-Carat Green Diamond Could Fetch $20M at Christie’s
The fancy vivid green diamond will lead the auction house’s Magnificent Jewels sale on May 31 in Hong Kong.
The 5.03-carat fancy vivid green “Aurora Green” diamond is predicted to sell for between $16 and $20 million at Christie’s later this month.
Hong Kong--A 5.03-carat fancy vivid green diamond is predicted to sell for between $16 and $20 million when it hits the auction block at Christie’s later this month.
The “Aurora Green” is a rectangular-cut, fancy vivid green diamond of VS2 clarity surrounded by circular-cut pink diamonds. According to Christie’s, the GIA says it is the largest fancy vivid green natural color diamond it has graded as of Jan. 20.
The diamond will lead the Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels auction on May 31, which is part of a special series of sales to celebrate Christie’s 30th anniversary in Asia.
The leading lot of the sale will be this VS2, rectangular-cut fancy vivid green diamond weighing approximately 5.03 carats surrounded by circular-cut pink diamond accents. The Aurora Green is estimated to sell for between $16 and $20 million.
A necklace featuring a fringe of pear-shaped diamonds in a floral motif, set with a circular-cut pink diamond at center and each suspended with a briolette diamond, weighing approximately 11.32, 6.82, 6.63, 5.90 and 5.81 carats, and a diamond border mounted in platinum. Its pre-sale estimate is between $2.8 million and $3.9 million.
This Harry Winston ring is set with a 25.58-carat rectangular-cut diamond and flanked with tapered baguette-cut diamond shoulders, all set in platinum. Christie’s estimates it will sell in the range of $3.2 to $4.1 million.
This signed Faidee bracelet features three lines of cushion-shaped Burmese rubies, weighing approximately 4.22 to 1.02 carats, alternating with cushion-shaped diamonds, ranging from 2.01 to 0.73 carats, and accented by pear-shaped diamonds mounted in platinum and gold. It could sell for as much as $4.9 million.
A second green diamond also will be a highlight of the Christie’s Hong Kong sale. This ring is set with a cushion-shaped fancy vivid bluish-green diamond of approximately 2.08 carats surrounded with circular-cut white and pink diamonds and mounted in gold, estimated to sell for up to $3.2 million.
Also highlighting the sale is a Burmese ruby and diamond bracelet with a maker’s mark for Faidee, slated to sell for between $3.6 million and $4.9 million, and a 25.58-carat rectangular-cut diamond ring from Harry Winston, which could sell for as much as $4.1 million.
Rounding out the top five lots is a white and colored diamond necklace in platinum with floral accents and briolette shapes, expected to garner between $2.8 million and $3.9 million, and a second green diamond, this one a cushion-shaped fancy vivid bluish green diamond weighing approximately 2.08 carats slated to sell for as much as $3.2 million.
The announcement of the sale of the Aurora Green comes as both Christie’s and Sotheby’s set to sell two other spectacular colored diamonds this week--Sotheby's with the Unique Pink and Christie's with the Oppenheimer Blue.
