Larkspur & Hawk Unveils First Diamond Collection
The brand is applying its signature foiled technique, popular in Georgian jewelry, to rose-cut diamonds.

New York—Larkspur & Hawk’s jewelry just got a little more precious.
Designer Emily Satloff created Larkspur & Hawk nearly a decade ago as a contemporary take on foiled jewelry, a technique most common to Georgian period jewelry-making in which a transparent stone, like quartz, takes on the hue of the colored foil beneath it.
In antique pieces, foiled jewelry was most commonly utilized as an alternative to real diamond and gemstone pieces, commonly featuring paste—or glass—stones.
For Larkspur & Hawk, however, gold settings, diamond accents, and painstaking craftsmanship have always placed its modern-day creations within the fine jewelry realm.
Now, it’s upping the ante with the Ivy collection, which foils rose-cut diamonds, rather than traditional quartz.
“Historically, foiling was used by 18th-century jewelers who didn’t have the stone-cutting technology to create brilliant, faceted stones,” Satloff said. “Of course, today’s diamonds don’t need any enhancing. This collection is really about celebrating the art of foiling, showing how colored foils can lend even the most exquisite gems a distinctive glow.”
Satloff does so courtesy of pastel pink and blue foils in a series of five drop-earring styles that range from everyday-appropriate huggie hoops to elegant statement styles that would be excellent bridal jewelry contenders, plus two pendant necklaces.
Ivy starts at $1,750 for a simple drop pendant and caps off at $3,800 for a two-drop huggie hoop earring with diamond pave accents.
The collection is set in what Satloff calls “pale yellow gold,” a proprietary alloy.
She said: “Ivy truly gets at the heart of what inspired me to create Larkspur & Hawk—paying homage to the past through contemporary design.
“Eighteenth-century jewelers rarely had the opportunity to work with stones of such high quality, and most modern diamond jewelry features fantastic stones but lacks personality. Ivy incorporates both, nodding to history while being unmistakably now.”
The collection is available now at LarkspurandHawk.com and soon through the brand's retailers.
