In the fall, the Pantone Color Institute named the hues expected to be prominent in the fashion and design industries this spring.

The 10 colors, as identified in its biannual Fashion Color Report, are: Placid Blue, Violet Tulip, Hemlock, Paloma, Freesia, Sand, Celosia Orange, Cayenne, Dazzling Blue and Radiant Orchid, which also is the color of the year for 2014.

Pantone composes its fashion reports by surveying designs at New York Fashion Week and other events, identifying the upcoming season’s standout color trends.

“This season, consumers are looking for a state of thoughtful, emotional and artistic equilibrium. While this need for stability is reflected in the composition of the palette, the inherent versatility of the individual colors allows for experimentation with new looks and color combinations,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.
