From Basel: 5 watches from Seiko
Japanese watch company Seiko is bringing its line of adventure sport watches to the U.S. market for the first time and has a new collection designed to attract younger consumers, with prices starting below $200.
The brand’s Prospex sports watches used to be available only in Japan but will be making their U.S. debut this year, backed by an advertising campaign starring the Seiko’s newest ambassador, tennis champion Novak Djokovic. Seiko signed Djokovic, who currently ranks as the No. 2 tennis player in the world, as an ambassador earlier this year.
In addition, the brand is launching Recraft, a new collection for the U.S. market whose designs are taken from Seiko’s archives. None of the watches have batteries--they are mechanical, solar or kinetic--and prices range from $195 to $395 retail.
These watches join the new Astron and Grand Seiko models for the brand in 2014.
All prices given are retail.
