Mumbai--Diamond manufacturer Shree Ramkrishna Exports Pvt. Ltd. (SRK) recently marked its 50th anniversary by “Celebrating the Legend,” its founder and chairman, Govind Dholakia.
The event, held April 8, included associates of SRK from around the world as well as 18 diplomats from eight countries, all key to the global jewelry trade: Russia, South Africa, Canada, Thailand, Namibia, Belgium, Malawi and the Kingdom of Lesotho.
Versatile Bollywood actor Boman Irani hosted the party, which included a series of short talks on the history of the company and its future generations.
Speaking to the crowd of 1,500-plus attendees, Dholakia, who started the company in 1964, acknowledged the contribution of the 7,000 associates who are the engine of SRK and helped the company reach its 50th year in business.
He added that his old partners--Bhagwanji Patel and the late Virji Godhani--also were integral to his success. “Without my brother-like partners, reaching this astonishing 50-year milestone would not possible,” he said.
Also addressing the crowd was Dholakia’s son, Shreyans Dholakia, who introduced the future generation of the company and spoke about how it will be successful going forward.
He said that his father’s philosophy--“A person is a worker if he works with head and hand but an artist if he works with head, hand and heart.”--is one in which he believes as well.
To mark his company’s milestone, Dholakia’s family members presented him with an expression of gratitude--a Rolls-Royce Phantom.
In addition to this presentation and the speeches, Indian classical music played at the event while poet and lyricist Javed Akhtar shared a poem written for Dholakia and industry leaders launched Nothing to Everything--A Divine Journey, a book about Dholakia’s journey and achievements.
Based in Mumbai, SRK is a De Beers Group sightholder that has its main manufacturing facility in the Indian city of Surat. More information is available about the company on its website.
