While many Americans enamored with British royalty were anxious to hail the Queen, style editors couldn't wait to criticize her staunch attire, which seemed to exclude stunning pieces from one of the largest private jewelry collections known.
Queen Elizabeth II's six-day visit to the United States included an archeological tour, a trip to the Kentucky Derby, a visit to the British Embassy and a white-tie state dinner. From New York Magazine to the Houston Chronicle, fashion critics seemed to feel that Her Majesty looked unmajestic at every event.
The night of the White House gala she was blinged out, sporting a diamond necklace, earrings and a tiara. At other events during her stay, she wore a classic pearl necklace and earrings.
Are the critics being harsh? Isn't her style of dress age- and status-appropriate? After all, she is an 81-year-old queen.
