According to a recent article in The Detroit News, Scott Ward, owner of South Lyon Watch and Jewelry, assigned six scorpions to patrol the inside of a jewelry case. The scorpions are only armed with stingers, but that weapon alone causes pain, a burning sensation and numbness.
Not only do the eight-legged arthropods sting, they create a marketing buzz. During the scorpions' winter hiatus at Ward's home, customers constantly questioned their whereabouts. "The world's most dangerous jeweler," as advertised on a sign at Eight Mile and Pontiac Trail, says everyone loves them.
