Which Jewelry Brand Has the Highest Resale Value?
The RealReal’s No. 1 reseller for the second year in a row sells for 74 percent of its original value.

New York—Pre-owned online consignment site The RealReal has released its annual list of brands that boasted the highest resale value in 2018.
For the second year in a row, Van Cleef & Arpels came in at the top spot, with a 74 percent resale value—a 5 percent increase from last year. The RealReal said the brand’s signature “Alhambra” motif is a top draw for its customers.
Cartier also sold for 74 percent of its original price tag on average, with the “Juste un Clou” bracelet performing particularly well.
Meanwhile, an independent designer proved that she can compete with the storied jewelry maisons; Anita Ko sold for an impressive 69 percent of its original price.
In the watches category, Rolex, Patek Philippe and Panerai had the top resale values for the year.
Rolex occupied the No. 1 spot, with its figures increasing 14 percent year-over-year. Patek Philippe saw an 8 percent year-over-year increase, while Panerai’s resale value increased 11 percent compared with 2017, selling at 60 percent of its original value on average.
“Our unique data speaks to the longevity of top designers, and is a touchstone for shifts in consumer behavior,” The RealReal Chief Merchant Rati Levesque said. “Gifting heritage and meticulously crafted luxury goods is what extending the life cycle of luxury is all about and ultimately lets everyone participate in the circular economy.”
The RealReal also noted the brands that were in decline in the jewelry and watches category.
Chopard’s resale value dropped by 12 percent compared with last year, while Judith Ripka and Cathy Waterman saw their values decline by 4 percent.
For watches, Ebel dropped 17 percent, Chanel 16 percent and Raymond Weil 7 percent.
