Selena Gomez Said ‘Forever Begins Now’ to Marquise Diamond Engagement Ring

Estimates on the size and value of the solitaire diamond, which is mounted on a diamond pavé-set yellow gold band, vary.

Los Angeles—“Forever begins now,” Selena Gomez wrote on her Instagram Wednesday, announcing her engagement to music producer Benny Blanco.

After one year of dating, Blanco proposed to the musician, actress, and businesswoman with a marquise-cut solitaire diamond engagement ring.

The fancy-cut diamond is mounted on a slightly chunky yellow gold band set with pavé diamonds.

Selena Gomez Marquise Engagement Ring
Selena Gomez’s solitaire engagement ring features a marquise-cut diamond estimated by jewelers to be anywhere between 4 and 9 carats, VVS1 clarity, and D to F color. Cost estimates range from $100,000 all the way up to $1 million.

While the carat weight and value of Gomez’s ring is unknown, many jewelers have made estimates.

Jessica Flinn of Jessica Flinn Fine Jewellery believes the diamond to be between 8 to 9 carats, and Laura Taylor of U.K. company Lorel Diamonds told British tabloid the Daily Mail that the gemstone is 8 carats and “likely of exceptional quality, with VVS1 clarity, and colorless grading in the D-F range.”

Meanwhile, Shane Co.’s Director of Bridal Merchandising Amanda Trevizo said via email that she thinks the ring features a 4-carat diamond while Ann Grimmett, the vice president of merchandising at Jared, told People that it is 6 carats.

The estimated value of Gomez’s engagement ring ranges from $100,000 to $1 million for the higher carat estimates.

Blanco’s choice of a marquise ring reflects more than Gomez’s taste in jewelry.

It may also be a nod to her hit 2015 song, “Good For You.” In the song, which features rapper A$AP Rocky, Gomez describes herself as a marquise diamond.

She sings, “I’m on my marquise diamonds / I’m a marquise diamond / Could even make that Tiffany jealous.”

Gomez is one of a number of celebrities who have received a solitaire engagement ring over the last few years.

Adele, Lady Gaga, Simone Biles, and Hailey Bieber all said yes to the more simplistic style.

It’s not just the design of Gomez’s ring that fits current trends, but the cut of the diamond as well.

Jillian Sassone, founder and creative director of Marrow Fine, said marquise-cut engagement rings are a trend she has seen a lot of and believes will continue into 2025.

“Traditionally associated with royalty, marquise diamonds feature elegant, pointed ends that create the illusion of a larger stone,” said Sassone.

The marquise cut dates back to the 18th century, said Lorel Diamonds’ Taylor, when King Louis XV of France commissioned a diamond shape to resemble the smile of his mistress, the Marquise de Pompadour.

According to MID House of Diamonds, other women with the title of marquise began wearing these football-shaped diamonds as a symbol of their status, and the marquise cut was born. (A marquise is the wife of a marquess and ranks between a duchess and a countess in French court.)

Gomez and Blanco have been dating since June of 2023.

Gomez began teasing a possible engagement in August, posting a photo to Instagram Stories of a heart emoji covering her left ring finger.

In May, Blanco spoke with Howard Stern on “The Howard Stern Show” about his relationship with Gomez and his desire to get married and have children.

He said, “I don’t know a world where it could be better than this.”
