Calif. Jeweler Ernie Glave Dies at 90
The longtime owner of Ernest A. Glave Jeweler in downtown San Jose died Dec. 22 in a tragic accident.
San Jose, Calif.--Ernest Glave, a longtime California jeweler known for his work ethic and determination, has died at the age of 90.
According to the San Jose Mercury News, Glave was struck and killed by a truck on the evening of Dec. 22 on South Bascom Avenue in San Jose.
Glave operated his store, Ernest A. Glave Jeweler in downtown San Jose, for more than three decades. Despite his advanced age, he continued to make it into the shop to work six days a week, the story said, even as the store saw years of decreasing sales.
Ernest A. Glave Jeweler could not be reached for further comment Monday afternoon, as the phone number listed for the retailer was out of service.
Thanh Pham, the security guard at the Old Bank of America building in which the store is located, was quoted as telling the Mercury News, “He was a good man. He’d say, ‘How you doing?’ and I would always tell him, ‘Come on, retire. Go home! Relax.’ But he was here every day.”
Glave also was a World War II veteran and a member of the United Veterans Council, helping support veteran causes and organize local events, including turning the San Jose Veterans Day parade into one of the largest military pageants in the region.
