Arrest Made in Fatal Las Vegas Jewelry Store Robbery
The armed robbery occurred back in December at John Fish Jewelers in Las Vegas.
Las Vegas—The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department arrested a man believed to be involved in the armed robbery of a jewelry store in December 2018 that left his alleged accomplice dead and an employee critically wounded.
Gregory Richardson, 32, was arrested last weekend on charges of attempted murder and robbery, kidnapping, burglary with a weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery and burglary, according to the Las Vegas Review Journal.
On Dec. 29, 2018, Richardson and Sir Isley Duncan entered John Fish Jewelers, an independent jeweler located in the 900 block of E. Sahara Avenue, around 5 p.m.
The armed men allegedly attempted to tie up the employees and rob the store, but an employee with a permit to carry a concealed weapon tried to thwart the robbery and began exchanging fire with at least one of the suspects.
The gunfire left the employee critically wounded and struck a customer. Duncan died at the scene.
A search of his cellphone was a key clue in identifying Richardson, according to the local report.
Cellphone records show that the two had called each other around 80 times in the weeks leading up to the robbery.
The pair reportedly met when they served time for robbery convictions at the same Nevada state prisons.
Jewelers’ Security Alliance President John J. Kennedy said at the time of the armed robbery the second suspect, Duncan, was the only individual killed while in commission of a jewelry crime in 2018.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and John Fish Jewelers did not respond to National Jeweler’s request for comment.
Richardson will be held at the Clark County Detention Center without bail. A preliminary hearing is set for April 8.
