Phillips to Host Ana Khouri Exhibition Sale
Works from the influential contemporary designer will be on view next month in New York City.
New York—Ana Khouri’s status as one of today’s most influential voices in jewelry will be solidified this fall when the designer’s work goes on display at Phillips auction house.
“Jewels Now – Ana Khouri” is the second in what a Phillips spokesperson confirmed to National Jeweler is an ongoing series of private sale-style exhibitions focused on contemporary designers.
Earlier this year, the auction house hosted the “Jewels Now – Lauren Adriana” sale, the first in the series.
Since launching her namesake line in 2013, Khouri has consistently started conversations about how jewelry can be worn, creating new styles that have upended the medium’s status quo. Her earrings, in particular, that wrap around the ear lobe, appearing as almost natural accoutrements to the body, have become her signature piece.
“It is a privilege to have the opportunity to present the beautiful, fluid and creative works from Ana Khouri’s oeuvre,” said Phillips’ Head of Jewels, Americas, Susan Abeles, who joined the company earlier this year. “Since founding her company, she has changed the way people interact with and wear their jewelry. Her gem canvases are feminine, unique and engaging for those women who share her nonconventional ideology and embrace her artistic vision.”
The designer’s ingenuity has made her a standout even in the world of high jewelry, where she shows alongside brands like Bulgari and Chanel during the biannual haute joaillerie presentations in Paris, representing one of the arena’s rare independent voices.
Khouri commented, “Jewelry is my medium and to make it, by nature, is to be mindful of its techniques and the value of such fine materials. But this is secondary. The feeling I want to impart is one of radiance, in every sense: That of light, of emotion, of energy and, of course, that of beauty. I am honored to be showing my work at Phillips with this exhibition."
Jewels Now – Ana Khouri will be on display at Phillips’ New York City location at 450 Park Avenue from Sept. 14 to 16.
