The Top 10 Stories of the Year So Far

Articles on engagement ring trends, lab-grown diamonds, and a Miami tragedy are among National Jeweler’s most-read stories to date in 2021.

From a story about the ongoing battle between Tiffany and Costco to the closure of a 108-year-old independent, National Jeweler is counting down the most-read stories published on NationalJeweler.com between Jan. 1 and July 2, 2021.
New York—Today, July 2, marks the 183rd day of 2021. We are halfway through the year. 
 
Accordingly, National Jeweler is counting down the 10 most-read stories of the year so far, according to Google Analytics.

Stories about independent jewelers retiring are always of interest to the trade, but this was a special one. Friedrich Jewelers had been in business since 1913. 
 
The industry continues to pray for Hedaya, a beloved member of the Continental Buying Group and Preferred Jewelers International teams. As of press time, she remains unaccounted for following the June 24 collapse of the Surfside, Florida condo building where she lived. 
 
Associate Editor Lenore Fedow has submitted a number of great opinion pieces this year but this column following Pandora’s announcement about its new collection of lab-grown diamond jewelry has been one of the most popular. 
 
In February, a former employee of C.D. Peacock filed a lawsuit against the jeweler claiming she was fired after she blew the whistle on its alleged practice of funneling Rolex watches into the gray market.

The long-standing dispute has been returned to a lower court, with the jeweler and the big-box retailer locking horns over damages and Tiffany’s right to a jury trial.
