July birthstone baubles
Associate Editor Brecken Branstrator rounds up six pieces of jewelry set with this month’s birthstone, the ruby, which is thought to bring health, wealth and wisdom.
Rubies are arguably the rulers of the colored gemstone world. They can command the highest per-carat price of any colored stone, according to the Gemological Institute of America, cementing them as one of the most important gems on the market.
They also have a strong place in history, with many early civilizations creating legends around the brilliant red hue of the gem, and are thought to bring good health, wealth, wisdom and love.
Here are six jewels to celebrate the month’s birthstone, priced from less than $1,000 retail to more than $6,000.
Ilana Ariel’s three-dot studs from her Stepping Stones collection feature ruby center stones accented with diamonds in 14-karat yellow gold ($620).
Lori McLean’s ring features mixed-cut rubies made in 14-karat yellow gold ($1,048).
Stuller’s 14-karat white gold ruby and diamond Mystara necklace ($1,076)
Jemma Wynne’s 18-karat yellow gold bangle features a ruby closure ($1,890).
Finn’s ruby bar dangle earrings set in 18-karat gold are plated with black rhodium in the front ($2,380).
Syna’s 18-karat yellow gold Kamala earrings set with rubies and diamonds ($6,600)
