World’s largest Paraiba tourmaline set in necklace
Canadian jeweler Kaufmann de Suisse has created a necklace using what has been designated as the world’s biggest Paraiba tourmaline, a gem weighing nearly 200 carats.

Montreal--Canadian jeweler Kaufmann de Suisse has created a necklace using what has been designated as the world’s biggest Paraiba tourmaline, a gem weighing nearly 200 carats.
The “Ethereal Carolina Divine Paraiba” is a brilliant-cut oval-shaped stone that weighs in at 191.87 carats.
The Guinness Book of World Records has recognized this huge Paraiba tourmaline as the largest of its kind. It is nearly four times larger than the previous record holder, a nearly 51.77-carat stone.
According to press reports released when the gemstone was first unveiled in 2009, it’s valued between $25 million and $125 million.
The Divine Paraiba is now part of a necklace known as the “Paraiba Star of the Ocean Jewels,” designed by Moneca Kaufmann, president of Kaufmann de Suisse. In addition to the Paraiba tourmaline gemstone, the necklace also features multi-color precious and semi-precious gemstones as well as a 10-carat fancy yellow diamond.
The company unveiled the necklace Oct. 18.
The piece will be on display at Kaufmann de Suisse’s Palm Beach, Fla. store for 10 days in January.
The designer Kaufmann will perform the international auction for the necklace, which is expected to be held within a year from now, according to a Kaufmann spokesperson.
The record-setting Paraiba tourmaline is currently owned by Billionaire Business Enterprises Inc.
