Unlike moms, dear ole dads tend to get slighted on the day that honors good child-rearing. Consequently, retail advertising for Father's Day is mellow in comparison to Mother's Day. But this year, the fanfare seemed to be at an all-time low.
Obviously, retailers took heed to the results of the 2008 Father's Day Consumer Intentions and Actions Survey from the National Retail Federation. It relayed the message that big-ticket items are not foremost on the minds of Father's Day shoppers due to the rising costs of gas and groceries.
With the average price of gas expecting to rise to $4.15 per gallon, shoppers are more likely to get a better deal at the jewelry counter than at the pump.
But don't worry. Dad understands that the expense of filling your tank and dressing him in the finest bling might put you in the poor house or, even worse, back at his house in your old bedroom.
