GCAL by Sarine Opens New Lab in Mumbai
The facility is located within SEEPZ and is GCAL by Sarine’s second location in India, joining its existing grading lab in Surat.
Operations at GCAL by Sarine’s new grading lab in Mumbai officially started on Aug. 24. Lab President Angelo Palmieri, pictured on the far right at the ribbon-cutting ceremony, said the new facility will focus on jewelry certification and quality assurance.
Mumbai, India—GCAL by Sarine recently announced the opening of its second grading laboratory in India and third worldwide.
The lab is in Mumbai within the Santacruz Electronics Export Processing Zone, or SEEPZ, a special economic zone that is home to jewelry exporters, as well as electronics and software companies.
It serves India’s jewelry manufacturing and export center, while GCAL by Sarine’s other lab in Surat, India, is positioned in the country’s diamond manufacturing hub.
Operations officially launched at the new lab in late August.

The new SEEPZ Mumbai lab focuses on jewelry certification and quality assurance for pieces that are being exported to the United States, Asia, and other markets, GCAL by Sarine President Angelo Palmieri explained in an email to National Jeweler.
Meanwhile, the Surat lab focuses on loose diamond certification, while the New York location offers the lab’s full range of services.
“The opening of our SEEPZ lab expands GCAL by Sarine’s capabilities in India into jewelry certification and brings our services closer to manufacturers and exporters,” Palmieri said in the official press release about the lab’s opening.
“For our retail, wholesale, and manufacturing customers, proximity and logistical efficiency are increasingly important, and this new facility enables us to serve them more effectively.”
