Karma El Khalil’s New Collection is an Ode to the Moon
The “Moonlight Rhapsody” collection is overflowing with gemstones, from raw opal to morganite and spessartite.

“Moonlight Rhapsody” is a 15-piece collection showcasing the rare and unique custom-cut gemstones that El Khalil, founder and designer of the namesake brand, often opts for. Everything is set in 18-karat yellow and white gold styles.
These new pieces include opal, aquamarine, apatite, spessartite, garnet, morganite, chalcedony, lavender quartz, and white and blue iolite.
Throughout the collection, these gemstones are used to recreate specific visual emblems of the moon, a motif El Khalil has been inspired by in the past.
In the “Ocean of Storms” necklace, raw opal represents the rocky surface of the moon, while the milky quartz in the “Colliding Neutron Star” earrings is reminiscent of a full moon.
Even the choice to use satin-textured gold can be attributed to the seemingly matte texture of the moon.
The collection also features the designer’s signature styles through geometric chains, repetitive patterns, and negative space as a nod to the designs from the beginning of El Khalil’s career.
“To honor the dynamic life of this celestial being, I created jewelry that is in constant motion when worn—everything is attached by chains and dangling off of hoops, and the necklaces move along with the wearer,” said El Khalil, who explained that she found inspiration in the way the moon is a living entity with a shadow that takes various shapes as it orbits our earth.
The Moonlight Rhapsody is also an ode to hope; she said that the immensity of the moon brings her a sense of faith after experiencing the challenges occurring in the world over the last few years.
“To me, its otherworldly presence feels God-like and gives me hope. The idea of being surrounded by an entity that lives its own ideal existence and visits us every day from hundreds of thousands of miles away feels like a gift, which I never take for granted,” said El Khalil.
“Through this collection, I intended to express the beauty that exists in the world, in our nature, in the elements surrounding us. In seemingly hopeless moments, there is still goodness around us.”
The Moonlight Rhapsody collection is comprised of necklaces and earrings retailing for $3,800 to $34,000.
It is available at select Karma El Khalil stockists across the U.S. and at the brand’s Bergdorf Goodman trunk show, which runs until Jan. 11 in the jewelry salon.
