The Latest Diamond Screening Instruments Are Available for Testing

Industry members can try out the devices designed to distinguish natural diamonds from lab-grown ones at an event that runs through July.

New York—For the next two months, the latest diamond screening devices will be available for members of the industry to test, thanks to an event spearheaded by the Diamond Manufacturers & Importers Association of America.

DMIA’s Diamond Technology Showcase kicked off Tuesday at the organization’s headquarters in New York City’s Diamond District.

The event gives DMIA members, as well as members of the industry at large, the chance to familiarize themselves with many of the devices on the market created to distinguish natural diamonds from lab-grown diamonds and diamond simulants.

They can test their own diamonds and diamond jewelry using the devices and will have the chance to connect with the instruments’ manufacturers.

“Screening equipment must become an integral part of the process of buying and selling diamonds,” said Stuart Samuels, who was elected DMIA president earlier this year. “Today, it is an essential tool, just like a diamond scale.”

Those interested in attending the showcase must make an appointment.

They can do so online here, or by emailing the DMIA at  appointment@dmia.diamonds and providing the number of attending participants along with their names, company names, email addresses and telephone numbers.

DMIA organized the showcase in collaboration with the Jewelers Vigilance Committee, the Responsible Jewelry Council and the Natural Diamond Council’s Assure Program, its testing regimen for diamond verification instruments.

The event is taking place at the association’s headquarters in the World Diamond Tower, 580 Fifth Ave. in Manhattan. It will continue through July 30.

During that time, the NDC and JVC will also host a series of webinars related to supply chain integrity, all on Thursdays.

 The schedule is as follows.

“How to Ensure the Integrity of Your Diamond Pipeline,” with John Hall of the Responsible Jewelry Council, June 10 and July 1 at 10 a.m. EDT; register here.

“Consumer Confidence, Diamond Terminology, and Why It’s Vital to Verify Your Diamond Supply,” with Tiffany Stevens of the Jewelers Vigilance Committee, June 17 and July 8 at 10 a.m. EDT; register here.

“How to Test and Choose Diamond Verification Instruments: Get to Know the Assure Program,”  with Luc Auer and Grant Mobley of the Natural Diamond Council, June 24 and July 15 at 10 a.m. EDT;
 register here.
