New York City hosted the Jewelry Industry Summit, the JA New York Show, MJSA Expo and Lueur while the Baselworld show opened in Switzerland.
It’s been an active week for the jewelry industry in New York City, where the JA New York, MJSA Expo and Lueur shows all happened at the Javits Center and others in the industry gathered at the Jewelry Industry Summit to talk about responsible sourcing and sustainability.
Meanwhile, one company unveiled the first pieces of platinum jewelry made using a 3-D printer and is displaying them at the Baselworld show, which opened Thursday.
De Beers announced the launching of its diamond reselling business in the United States and Blue Nile said that it would open its third brick-and-mortar location in the Washington, D.C. area by mid-summer.

The “De Beers Millennium Jewel 4,” a 10.10-carat oval-shaped internally flawless fancy vivid blue diamond that originally was part of the De Beers Millennium Jewels, is expected to fetch $35 million this April at Sotheby’s. Read more here.

The Jewelry Industry Summit took place March 11 to 13 in New York City. Attendees discussed what’s already being done by companies to address responsible sourcing and sustainability and where more opportunities remain.
Due to lower foreign spending and softness in sales to U.S. consumers, total sales and same-store sales decreased for Tiffany & Co. Americas regions in both the fiscal fourth quarter and the full-year period. Read more here.
