How GIA Online Education Works
Earn your diploma by completing a combination of self-paced, online courses and in-person lab classes that fit your schedule.
Online courses allow you to study whenever and wherever you want:
- Submit assignments and take exams at your own pace through an easy-to-use online platform.
- Interact with GIA instructors able to answer your questions and guide you through coursework.
Short lab classes are offered in-person at GIA campuses in New York, Carlsbad, CA, and beyond.
- Learn gem identification and grading skills using professional equipment.
- Gain hands-on experience using microscopes, polariscopes, a loupe, and more.
GIA online diplomas that require in-person lab classes include Graduate Diamonds, Graduate Colored Stones, Graduate Pearls, and the respected GIA Graduate Gemologist®.
AJP® Online Diploma
One of GIA’s most popular online diplomas, the GIA Applied Jewelry Professional™, can be earned by completing three online courses (no lab classes required):

GIA offers scholarships to qualifying applicants for both online courses and lab classes. Online applications are available twice a year – in March and September.
