New Approach School for Jewelers Announces Gemvision Partnership
The Tennessee school’s CAD Academy is now offering training in Gemvision’s MatrixGold software.
Arrington, Tenn.—The New Approach School for Jewelers is beefing up its CAD education with MatrixGold.
The Arrington, Tennessee jewelry school’s CAD Academy offers courses in programs like ZBrush, Rhino 3D, and Keyshot, to turn students into versatile “cadsmiths” who can design and model jewelry.
Now, the school has announced a partnership with Stuller-owned Gemvision, creator of MatrixGold software.
Students at NASJ can take one- and two-week intensives in MatrixGold to master 3D modeling in the software. MatrixGold is also incorporated into the school’s eight-week program, “Dynamic CAD,” that covers a variety of software.
NASJ Founder and President Blaine Lewis said of the new MatrixGold curriculum, “This partnership will merge the two sides of the spectrum. On one hand, you have industry giant Stuller where users can get anything from casting grain to tools to finished mountings.
“On the other, you have the most respected trade school in the industry [that] trains jewelers to be the best bench jeweler.”
Lewis founded NASJ to provide hands-on instruction in jewelry design, fabrication, bench jeweler skills, repair skills, and stone setting.
The school was founded in Virginia but is now located about twenty miles outside of Nashville.
NASJ specializes in visual teaching methods, such as high magnification videos of live demonstrations, and interactive learning.
Christopher Mendola, a 3D artist and art director who has thousands of 3D models, illustrations, and animations for books, videos, magazines, and commercials to his name, is the director of the CAD Academy.
