Ethical Metalsmiths Appoints New President
Christina Malle is a jewelry designer and goldsmith.
Christina Malle, a jewelry designer based in New York City, is the new president of Ethical Metalsmiths.
New York—Nonprofit organization Ethical Metalsmiths has announced its new president.
Christina Malle, of Christina Malle Jewelry in New York, New York, will replace outgoing the outgoing president, Monica Stephenson of Anza Gems.
Malle has been a member of Ethical Metalsmiths for more than a decade. She joined the organization's board of directors in 2018 and has acted as an advisor to the organization.
Malle is a former human rights attorney-turned-jewelry designer and goldsmith, with a graduate gemologist diploma from GIA.
She has written and spoken widely on the topics of transparency, traceability, environmental responsibility and human rights accountability in the jewelry industry.
Malle works exclusively in Fairmined gold and recycled gold and silver.
In 2019, her company, Christina Malle Jewelry, became an official Fairmined Licensee, meaning its gold can be traced to mines where companies and communities follow best mining practices to minimize harm to people and the environment.

She is a graduate of Dartmouth College and New York University School of Law. She learned goldsmithing at the 92nd Street Y in New York City and from master goldsmith Donna Distefano.
"While it is daunting to follow in the footsteps of Monica Stephenson and her predecessor Alexandra Hart, it is reassuring to know that they are both continuing in leadership roles at Ethical Metalsmiths," Malle said.
"Between EM’s very active and formidable board of directors, its fantastic advisory council and indispensable executive director Barbara Wheat, we anticipate that EM’s work towards a more responsible jewelry community will steam ahead energetically.”
Stephenson served as organization president from 2020 to 2023. She will remain on the board of directors.
