This May Conference Will Dive Into ‘Jewelry of the Americas’
The Association for the Study of Jewelry & Related Arts will host its annual conference virtually on May 21 and 22.

Ellicott City, Md.—The Association for the Study of Jewelry & Related Arts has set the dates for its 17th annual conference.
Themed “Beyond Boundaries, Jewelry of the Americas” this year, the conference will be held virtually on two afternoons—Saturday, May 21 and Sunday, May 22.
Speakers and sessions for the first afternoon are as follows.
--Penny Morrill, “William Spratling and the Taxco Jewelry Industry;”
--Ariana Bishop, “The Uses and Abuses of Patents in America’s Costume Jewelry Industry;”
--Elyse Zorn Karlin, “A Brief History of Canadian Jewelry;” and
--Darcy Evon, “Beautiful, Useful, Enduring, Clara Barck Welles and the Kalo Shop.”
For the second day, sessions are as follows.
--Diana Pardue, “Contemporary Native American Jewelry;”
--Harrice Simons Miller, “Magnificent American Costume Jewelry;”
--Robin Jaffee Frank, “Jewelry of Love and Loss: American Portrait and Mourning Miniatures;” and
--Mahnaz Ispahani Bartos, “The Jewelry of Robert Burle Marx.”
The lectures will be available online for registrants for 10 days after the conference.
A virtual cocktail party will be held after the Saturday session, with recipes for “gem” cocktails provided to attendees, ASJRA said.
The conference is priced at $155 for non-ASJRA members or $140 for members. Those who aren’t members yet can also pay $235 for membership and conference fees at the same time.
