London—Gem Diamonds has announced the sale of a special diamond.
Last month, the miner said it had recovered a 13.33-carat Type I pink diamond from the Letšeng mine in Lesotho.
Now, Gem Diamonds has sold the remarkable stone at a tender in Antwerp for $8.8 million, or roughly $656,441 per carat, to an undisclosed party.

And Letšeng certainly has produced some incredible diamonds in its lifetime. In 2018 alone, Gem Diamonds dug up 15 stones at the Lesotho mine weighing over 100 carats.
Among these stones was the “Lesotho Legend,” a 910-carat rough white diamond that sold for $40 million, or $43,956 per carat.
