Jade Trau Creates a Constellation of Diamonds
The “Constellation Plié” collar, our Piece of the Week, features diamonds arranged in a constellation of shining stars.
A warm summer night is the perfect time to gaze up at the stars and Jade Trau has brought the constellations down to Earth for our Piece of the Week.
The “Constellation Plié” collar showcases 1.76 carats of emerald-cut diamonds in an “Alchemy” setting design representing the shining stars while the 18-karat yellow gold collar that they sit on becomes the sky.
The star-like arrangement of the diamonds in this necklace came to be when Trau was aiming to place the stones in an organized yet random pattern.
“It reminded me of the first time I saw the Big Dipper, or Orion’s Belt,” said Trau.
“I was probably way too old to be seeing it for the first time, I’m a born and bred New York City girl, but once you see it, you can't unsee it. That's exactly how the collar felt. Once the design felt right, I couldn't unsee it either.”
This version of Trau’s Plié collar debuted at Couture and stands out from the design’s past versions, which first launched last year, because it uses a square form for a sharper, more sculptural look.
“I fell in love with it, the way it turns as it wraps around the neck, almost like a knife edge. It has so much movement,” said Trau.
The Constellation Plié collar retails for $19,500.
