GIA’s field gemologists travel the world investigating mines and collecting samples for GIA’s unrivalled gemstone reference collection. For instance, the assumption that orange fluorescence in blue sapphires solely indicated a Sri Lankan origin was debunked when GIA researchers uncovered its presence in multiple low-iron metamorphic deposits.
