See the Items in Gem Legacy’s 4th Anniversary Benefit Auction
One hundred percent of proceeds will benefit the nonprofit’s silicosis prevention initiative.
These spinel, diamond, and 18-karat gold earrings are up for auction right now in an event to celebrate Gem Legacy’s 4th anniversary and raise money for an initiative.
Royal Oak, Mich.—Gem Legacy has launched its annual anniversary auction to benefit its initiatives.
This year, the industry nonprofit, which is dedicated to supporting vocational training, entrepreneurship, and community development in East African colored gemstone mining communities, is celebrating four years.
The auction to celebrate the milestone features both products and services, such as a 10.87-carat red garnet trillion, an orange zircon ring from Rebecca Overmann, a purple fluorite crystal, a scholarship to American Gem Society’s Conclave event, and a holiday marketing consultation with Buzz Advertising Agency.
This year’s auction will benefit Gem Legacy’s initiative to help prevent silicosis, a lung disease prevalent among tanzanite miners due to their exposure to silica dust that comes from the gem’s host rock that can be fatal.
Gem Legacy provides preventative measures, as well as PPE, that has been customized to the needs of each mine and worker.
Auction bidding has already begun and will end Oct. 2 at 9 p.m. EST. Bidders can bid in increments or select the “buy now” price.
Shipping within the U.S. is sponsored by JM Shipping Solution by Jewelers Mutual Group.

The nonprofit is also celebrating its 2022 achievements. It has sponsored training for eight students in gemology and gemstone faceting, delivered 43 miner toolkits, given scholarships to 17 orphans for secondary school, funded free daily breakfast and lunch for more than 800 primary school students, and built 10 toilets for 1,500 secondary school students.
